I watched a YouTube tutorial on bead weaving. It was actually interesting in that the author used an animation to show how to do it. I tried it with some older beads I do not care for (yes I should get rid of them, but you never know when you’ll need some test beads), and seemed to do the technique okay. So I picked up some beads I like, but they were quite small. I had completed my test on size 11 beads, but I believe the ones I ended up using were size 15. It took a little bit to finish, but I’m happy with the result!
I then tried to do another technique (again with older beads) that I believe is called diagonal bead weaving.
I had a lot of fun doing this one. I have a few strands of a wonderful purple color diamond type bead and matching seed beads that I plan to use for a final version of this. I also would like to try this with some different shapes of beads.
There are a couple of things I realized as I was making these items. First, I think I’ve done something similar, but I could not find my pattern or description anywhere. For my yarn arts, I have a large notebook that I either write my patterns in, or print out and make notes on. If they are straight forward or I’ve bought them from someplace, I’ll save a copy on my Google drive. I need to start this for my beading as well.
The second thing I realize is that I’m not familiar enough yet with the terminology. I know what a seed bead is, but there are others that I don’t know off the top of my head. I think I need to familiarize myself a bit better with the different types of beads so I understand what a pattern is talking about without having to look at the finished picture when I do my bead shopping!
As a last note, I decided to do a simple necklace and matching earrings with some beads I really like. I know, they are not part of the bead weaving tutorials, but I didn’t want to forget to post a picture of them!
Now on to some of the other tutorials I bought supplies for. And no, I have do not have any idea what I’m going to do with most of these items!
